Mary Michelle 2008 Ice Wine
Made from Vidal Blanc, one of the classic grapes for New World Ice Wines, the Mary Michelle Ice Wine was harvested in December 2008. The grapes for this wine were frozen on the vines where they were left to hang and dry in the bright sunshine of late fall, concentrating the juice to a finished Brix of 36 degrees. Each bunch was handpicked and each grape produced just a few drops of sweet golden nectar. It was then fermented in stainless steel for 8 months then laid to rest in French oak barrels for an additional 2 years in the coolness of our cellar.
It is sweet on the attack but finishes clean and smooth. The Bouquet has a honey, buttery mouthfeel and a citrus aroma. On the palate, it is reminiscent of buttery caramel with overtones of glazed orange and pineapple. It is great to drink alone or with desserts made with tree fruits, date or fig puddings and pumpkin pie with whipped cream.
